Legal Aid
Know your rights. Choose your path. We’re here to help you navigate it.
You Don’t Have to Navigate the Legal System Alone
After an assault, the legal process can feel overwhelming, confusing, or even scary. At Christina’s Courage, we’re here to help you understand your rights, explore your options, and make informed decisions—without pressure, judgment, or obligation.
Whether you want to take legal action or just have questions, our legal advocates and attorneys will support you at every step. You decide what’s right for you.
How We Support You
We work with survivors to:
Understand Your Rights
- Your rights as a survivor during a criminal investigation
- What confidentiality means and how your information is protected
- Options for moving forward (or not)—it’s entirely your choice
File Injunctions (Restraining Orders)
- Help preparing and filing paperwork
- Representation or accompaniment at hearings
- Safety-focused planning throughout the process
Navigate Title IX (School or College Settings)
- Support reporting sexual assault or harassment in academic environments
- Help securing accommodations (like schedule changes or housing reassignment)
- Guidance through school investigations and processes
Request Workplace Protections
- Help requesting changes to your work schedule or location
- Support if your employer retaliates or fails to accommodate
- Resources for understanding your legal protections at work
Access Victim Compensation
- Help applying for Florida’s Crime Victim Compensation Program
- Possible coverage for lost wages, medical costs, relocation, or therapy
Know Your Immigration Options
- If you are undocumented or concerned about your legal status, we can help
- Guidance with visa options like U-visas or T-visas for survivors
- Referrals to immigration attorneys when needed
Your Choice. Your Timeline.
We understand that not every survivor wants to report or go to court—and that’s okay.
You are not required to file a police report to receive legal guidance or support from us. We’ll never push you to take steps you're not ready for.
What If I Do Want to Report?
If you decide to report your assault to law enforcement or participate in a legal case, we’ll be with you every step of the way.
We can:
- Help you prepare for meetings with police or prosecutors
- Join you in interviews, hearings, or court
- Explain confusing legal language and timelines
- Advocate for your safety and your voice throughout the process
